Mini Collection Illustration

It’s been a long time since I posted…I’ve been a little busy with Fashion School. And while, we sew all the time, I miss sewing for myself. A lot of the sewing we do are samples and muslins. One month until summer break, and my sewing to do list is huge.

Before fashion school I never drew anything by hand, so Illustration and Design class was very challenging for me. After my second semester I started to feel more confident, but I still have a ways to go. This is my final illustration project from last term. Over the summer I will try to make a few of these; starting with the bomber jacket.

Another thing we do in fashion school, is make a bunch of mood boards. At first, I was unsure of this process, but now I enjoy making them a lot. This collection was inspired by consumption. We live in a disposable culture, where it is cheaper to buy something new, rather than to get it repaired. People today own a lot of stuff; and this has spawned a whole culture of decluttering, and organization. I’m exploring the contrast between chaos and order, the difference between hoarding and collecting, and the hypocrisy of selling minimalism. Did I even need to explain? It’s all clear looking at the collection, right?

My favourite part of this project was designing the print. I just ordered it from Spoonflower, and I can’t wait to see it. I’m trying the modern jersey for the first time, hopefully it’ll work for my jacket.
